01/08/2006 - VIP taxi service at The Gate

The Gate, Newcastle’s premier leisure complex, has arranged for a local taxi firm to offer customers a VIP service to get them home safely after a night out.

Customers are now able to call Lansdowne Taxis, based at Salters Road, Newcastle, to order a cab that will pick them up inside the secure undercover car park at The Gate complex.

If customers wait near to the venue’s entrance, within mobile phone coverage, Lansdowne’s callback service will let them know their taxi has arrived. Posters have been placed in venues and in the malls at The Gate containing contact details and further information. Also during weekend evenings, Lansdowne Taxis has provided a customer service advisor to help explain how to use this unique service.

The move to provide the taxi service for The Gate was prompted by customer research that indicated that while customers felt safe within The Gate’s venues, they were often concerned about their safety once they had left the complex to join one of the city centre’s taxi queues.

Jude Leitch, marketing manager at The Gate, said: “We encourage all of our customers, especially young women, to do everything they can to keep themselves safe by planning their nights out and knowing how they will be getting home. We have extensive safety measures in place within The Gate, including a full CCTV system and highly trained security staff, and this new taxi service means we can also be sure our customers are getting home safely!”

Director of Lansdowne Taxis, Mike Worthington, said: “We are delighted to have linked up with The Gate. It is important that people can have a reliable and safe taxi service to get them home, especially at this time of year, when festive parties are about to get into full swing. We have a full GPS tracking system, which allows us follow all our vehicles movements. Our drivers are police checked and carry identification at all times.”
