09/08/2006 - Full Frontal exhibition at The Gate

The Gate, Newcastle’s premier leisure complex, has proved it is “first glass” when it comes to hosting unusual art exhibitions.
The front windows of the complex, which is the largest expanse of structural glass in Europe, will be used to exhibit 24 specially created pieces of work by local artists supported by Musa Fine Art Partnership.
The Gate and Musa Fine Art Partnership, which supports and encourages regional artists, have put together a number of exhibitions over the past two years in the Sky Gallery.
When the Sky Gallery space was taken by a tenant, Musa came up with the creative idea of using the huge glass windows as a new way of displaying the artwork.
Marketing manager at The Gate, Jude Leitch, said: “We were so disappointed to lose our Sky Gallery space as we really value our involvement with the arts community in the North East. Musa’s idea to use our front windows as a gallery was brilliant and will bring the art works to large numbers of local people.”
Carol Metcalfe of Musa Fine Art, said: “We hope lots of people will enjoy this exhibition as they pass The Gate. We see this project as truly bringing art to a wider audience with no need to step inside a gallery.”
The exhibition will run until September 18.
